Calculating Perfume Cost Per Bottle

How to figure out what a finished bottle actually costs you — including dilutions, alcohol, and packaging.

Why most cost estimates are wrong

The mistake: multiplying gram price of materials by formula percentages and stopping there. That ignores dilution overhead, solvent cost, and packaging.

The full cost stack

  1. Raw material cost — gram price × grams used, with dilution accounted for
  2. Solvent cost — alcohol or DPG used to dilute the concentrate
  3. Packaging — bottle, atomizer, cap, box, label
  4. Overhead — labor, electricity, rent (if applicable)

Dilution-aware math

If your formula uses 5 g of "Material X 10%", the actual cost is 0.5 g of pure X plus 4.5 g of solvent — not 5 g of X.

Scent Inventory tracks every batch with its real cost-per-gram and resolves this automatically when you finalize a production.
