Short profile
Ambranum displays a rich, sweet-resinous profile characterized by significant warmth, depth, and sweet vanillic facets. It presents the soft, subtly leathery warmth of labdanum alongside a dry frankincense edge, balanced with a powdery-sweet balsamic undercurrent. Unlike sharp or strictly dry woody-amber synthetics, it conveys a full, sensual amber construction imbued with musky richness and Ambroxan-like radiance. It develops as a robust foundation that lingers persistently on blotters for days without losing its rounded character.
Effect in a formula
This specialty base imparts substantial warmth, anchoring, and volume without overloading the composition with heavy opacity. It functions effectively as an olfactory bridge between natural resinous extracts and transparent synthetic ambers, supporting base notes instead of smothering them. It is particularly effective as an amber foundation in oriental, chypre, and fougère directions, as well as providing a warm, lingering base beneath citrus and floral notes.
Use and dosage
Typical formulation levels range from 1% to 8% within fragrance concentrates, with 0.5% to 5% being common in finished creations. Because it lacks harshness, it can even be pushed to double-digit percentages when used as a central theme.
