Short profile

Pencil-shaving cedar is the defining impression, with dryness more prominent than sweetness. Powdery and balsamic nuances soften the woody character, while a restrained sweetness and a supple, leather-like undertone add depth. The supplier places its contribution in the heart and base, describing less sharpness than Atlas cedarwood and less smoke than Texas cedarwood. On a blotter, the residual wood becomes warmer and softer over several days; a distinct opening sequence and measured projection are not documented.

Effect in a formula

Provides a persistent woody framework with a dry, powdery texture, particularly useful in fougère, chypre and masculine woody compositions. It reinforces the structure of vetiver and patchouli, gives Iso E Super a more grounded character and introduces dryness into musk accords. Iris combinations emphasize powdery wood, whereas tobacco and leather combinations support a traditional masculine direction.

Use and dosage

The supplier's formulation guidance gives 1–10% for general use and up to 25% in wood-focused accords, with the main description also discussing levels of 20% or more. However, another section assigns 1–10% to the finished fragrance, so the page does not consistently distinguish concentrate from finished-product percentages. These are creative use recommendations, not IFRA limits.

No confirmed manufacturer use level for this exact product.

Behaviour and performance

Tenacity
Reported to remain perceptible for several days on a smelling strip, with an increasingly soft, warm character. The supplier does not specify the test dilution, loading or an exact duration in hours.

Diffusion, tenacity and note impact are not combined into a single performance score.

Dissolving and diluting

Solvents
Ethanol is reported to dissolve the oil readily. DPG can give a cloudy preparation with some batches, while IPM is the supplier's preferred alternative for oil-based preparations.
Working dilution
The supplier lists neat handling or a 10% dilution as working options; ethanol is the stated solvent for the 10% solution.
Appearance
A pale-yellow oil, normally clear, with modest viscosity. Under cool storage conditions, white crystalline flakes or a solid bottom deposit can develop as cedrol separates.
Practical tip: Cool storage may cause cedrol to separate as white flakes or a compact deposit; the supplier describes this as reversible rather than a product defect. Gently bring the bottle to hand warmth and swirl to redissolve the deposit.
