Short profile

A woody, earthy oil with pronounced smoke and a dry root character. Leather, peat and a restrained medicinal nuance give the profile additional darkness, with associations to vetiver, patchouli and agarwood. Its development is gradual and base-oriented, with persistence described in days rather than hours. The undiluted oil can give a flattened, tar-like impression; the supplier does not document separate opening and heart stages, projection or a timed blotter progression.

Effect in a formula

Adds a dark, root-like base with earthy smoke, giving leather compositions structure and chypres a peaty undertone. It supports and extends oud accords, including partial replacement of natural oud while retaining its character. Vetiver compositions gain depth, while incense accords become darker; rose and saffron combinations favour a richly leathery direction.

Use and dosage

The supplier suggests 0.5–5% for general fragrance formulation and levels reaching 10% for leather or oud accords. The page also describes the lower range as use in a finished fragrance, so it does not unambiguously establish a concentrate-only basis. These are formulation recommendations, not IFRA limits.

No confirmed manufacturer use level for this exact product.

Behaviour and performance

Tenacity
Reported to persist for days, with gradual base-note development. No quantified blotter test, evaluation dilution or test conditions are provided.

Diffusion, tenacity and note impact are not combined into a single performance score.

Dissolving and diluting

Solvents
Gently warmed ethanol is reported to produce a transparent brown solution at 10%. IPM and DPG are also listed as solvent options, without corresponding concentration or clarity data.
Working dilution
Prepare a 10% ethanol stock for working use, using gently warmed solvent to aid dissolution. Reduce to 1% for olfactory evaluation rather than assessing the neat oil.
Appearance
Viscous oil with an amber through deep-brown colour range.
Practical tip: Warm gently before weighing to make the viscous oil easier to handle, and prepare small batches. Allow for substantial colour transfer when developing pale fragrances. Evaluate diluted samples, since neat assessment can obscure the profile beneath a tar-like impression.
