Short profile
The profile centres on rounded wood with restrained smoke, rather than an aggressively tarry character. Rose and tea nuances give the woody body a floral sweetness, with honeyed shading and a balsamic, incense-like depth. The supplier describes a persistent character that changes little during evaporation, rather than a distinct succession of opening, heart and dry-down notes. Projection and a timed blotter development are not documented.
Effect in a formula
Provides a rounded woody foundation with a measured smoky accent and floral-tea sweetness, without the pronounced harshness associated here with birch tar or cade. It links floral material to the base in rose compositions and chypres, and supports the foundation of amber fragrances. The supplier also attributes a fixative role to it, helping more volatile components remain perceptible for hours.
Use and dosage
The supplier gives 1–8% in the fragrance concentrate as a usual range when working from the supplied 50% stock, but does not clearly identify whether that range counts stock solution or neat oil. Separately, it recommends 1–10% of the stock in finished fragrance, explicitly equivalent to 0.5–5% oil, for rose, wood, tea, amber and chypre applications. These are formulation guidelines, not IFRA limits; the concentrate and finished-fragrance figures should not be treated as interchangeable.

Behaviour and performance
- Tenacity
- Described as strongly persistent, with a general duration ranging from many hours to days. No measured blotter endpoint, application quantity or test dilution is supplied.
Diffusion, tenacity and note impact are not combined into a single performance score.
Good areas of use
Dissolving and diluting
- Solvents
- The supplied ethanol stock is reported to form clear mixtures with ethanol and DPG. Oil-based systems are unsuitable for direct incorporation of this stock because its alcohol phase separates; the handling advice specifically warns against IPM and MCT. Although IPM also appears in the solvent list with a testing caveat, the page does not establish compatibility.
- Working dilution
- For compounding, the supplier allows use of the supplied 50% ethanol stock without further dilution, or a 10% working preparation. A 10% preparation in ethanol is indicated for smelling; the page does not clearly distinguish 10% neat-oil content from a 10% dilution of the supplied stock.
- Appearance
- The commercial 50% ethanol preparation is a viscous liquid ranging from pale yellow to yellow and may develop crystals during storage. This should be distinguished from the undiluted oil, described as a yellowish to greenish semisolid at room temperature, melting at 40–50 °C.
