Short profile
A bitter, celery-like opening introduces a warm resinous character with balsamic richness. The profile combines earthy woods with dry leather, while medicinal and mushroom-like nuances add an unusual savoury dimension. Liquorice and spice are also reported within its darker character. The supplier positions it as a persistent base material with low odour strength, rather than a powerful projecting note; no timed blotter evolution is documented.
Effect in a formula
Provides fixation while contributing a distinctly bitter resinous foundation, so its effect is characterful rather than neutral. Its dry leather and medicinal shading give weight to amber, incense, leather and oriental accords. Vanillin can round its balsamic character, while labdanum and patchouli support ambery and earthy directions respectively.
Use and dosage
The supplier recommends 1–8% in the fragrance formulation, allowing higher proportions for resin-led and oriental compositions. A separate laboratory note gives 0.5–5% in the finished fragrance; the page does not clearly reconcile these two formulation bases. These are creative use recommendations, not IFRA limits.
No confirmed manufacturer use level for this exact product.
Behaviour and performance
- Tenacity
- Described as a persistent base note lasting hours and potentially days. Longevity is estimated from volatility rather than supported by a stated blotter test, so no measured blotter duration is available.
Diffusion, tenacity and note impact are not combined into a single performance score.
Dissolving and diluting
- Solvents
- DEP is the carrier in the supplied product. The supplier reports clear dissolution in ethanol, DPG and benzyl benzoate, and also lists DEP as a dilution solvent. Oil-based systems are unsuitable because the DEP phase can separate; IPM and MCT are specifically discouraged.
- Working dilution
- For compounding, use the supplied DEP preparation directly or prepare a 10% dilution. A 10% dilution is recommended for smelling, with ethanol identified as the dilution-calculator solvent.
- Appearance
- Brown liquid preparation with appreciable viscosity, rendered pourable by its DEP carrier. Sediment may develop.
