Vanilla Madagascar Absolute 10% in EtOH

Short profile
A sweet vanilla profile with balsamic richness, distinguished by leather and smoke rather than the simpler character of vanillin. Rum-like fermentation, plum and a dry woody nuance give the sweetness a darker, almost tobacco-like character. Its reported base-note contribution is warm and persistent. The supplier does not describe projection or a timed opening-to-dry-down progression on blotter.
Effect in a formula
Adds complexity to vanillin- or ethylvanillin-based structures through smoky, leathery and fermented nuances, while supporting a lasting warm base. Its principal applications are vanilla, amber, tobacco and gourmand accords. Tonka and coumarin combinations develop a hay–tobacco foundation, while benzoin and sandalwood pairings emphasize balsamic fullness and creamy wood character respectively.
Use and dosage
The supplier gives a typical range of 1–10% of the supplied 10% solution, with higher amounts suggested for gourmand and amber-oriental compositions. Elsewhere the page explicitly assigns this range to finished fragrance, equivalent to 0.1–1% absolute; it therefore does not establish an unambiguous concentrate-only dosage. These are formulation suggestions, not IFRA limits.

Behaviour and performance
- Tenacity
- Described as a persistent base material lasting many hours to days. No blotter-specific duration, test dilution or measurement protocol is supplied.
Diffusion, tenacity and note impact are not combined into a single performance score.
Dissolving and diluting
- Solvents
- The product is supplied in ethanol at 10% absolute content and can be diluted further with DPG. Avoid incorporating this ethanolic preparation into IPM or MCT oil vehicles, since the supplier reports separation of the ethanol phase.
- Working dilution
- Use the supplied 10% ethanol solution directly for compounding; DPG is also listed for further dilution. For smelling, the page specifies an absolute content of 0.1%, but labels this dilution as “1%”; the percentage basis should be clarified before preparing an evaluation sample.
- Appearance
- A dark-brown ethanolic solution containing 10% absolute, supplied in a form suitable for pipetting. Sediment may form; the high viscosity described for the undiluted absolute should not be attributed to this supplied solution.
